  1. Register with the website on the login page at https://darfurwomennetwork.org/login/
  2. Once you are registered email an administrator to have your user role changed from “Subscriber” to “Author.”

Create A Post With Text And An Image

Create A Post With Text And An Image Using a Template

Follow these steps to create a post with an image at the top. The template that we will use in this tutorial contains elements that we will modify. It will only be necessary to modify some of them.

  1. In the Dashboard go to Posts>Add New.
  2. Close any pop-ups that may appear by clicking “Dismiss.”
  3. Enter the title for your post.
  4. Click on the blue button to enable the “Advanced Layout Editor.”
  5. On the right side of the layout area click on the “Templates” button.
  6. From the templates drop down menu select “Post with text and image.”
  7. Click on the “Templates” button again to close the menu.
  8. Click on the image placeholder.
  9. On the image settings screen click on insert image.
  10. On the tabs on the upper left corner of the screen select “Media Library.” You can also upload an image if you cannot find a suitable one in the image library.
  11. Select a size for your image from the dropdown menu on the right side of the screen. The best sizes to use are either “Full Size” or “Entry With Sidebar.”
  12. Click the button on the lower right to insert the image.
  13. Click “Save” on the lower right side of the Image Settings screen to place the image in your post.
  14. Now, Click in the box that says “Put the post title here too.”
  15. Enter your title again on the “Special Heading” settings screen. Leave all of the other settings at their defaults and click “Save.”
  16. Now click on the edit icon for the text box.
  17. Copy and replace the placeholder text. To maintain a uniform appearance across the site; please use “Heading size 3” in Google Docs or MS Word for all headings. All other styling options are control by the website stylesheet. Use images for  any tables that you want to include.
  18. Click “Save” in the lower right corner to place your text in the post.
  19. Now, navigate to the right side of the page and locate the menu that allows you to select a “Category.” Select either “Media” for news and media posts or “Programs” for post that describe new programs. Selecting a category is important. The category selection will tell the website software where to display the image link for the post on the website. Without it, the post will not be displayed at all.
  20. Now, scroll down to the “Tags” area on the right side of the screen. You can enter tags or keywords here, separated by commas or, choose from a list of most commonly used tags.
  21. Now set the featured image. Setting the featured image is important. The featured image is the image link for the post that gets displayed on either the “Media” or the “Programs” page of the website. To set the featured image, click on the link that says “Set Featured Image” on the lower right of the screen.
  22. Select an image from the Media Library and click the button on the lower right to set your featured image.
  23. Scroll to the top right side of the page to publish your post. Click the “Publish” button to publish the post immediately. Click on the “Preview” button at anytime while you are working on your post to check your work. the “Preview” button will load a preview of your post in a new browser tab. You can save your post as a working “Draft” if you are not able to finish it in one session. To  locate your draft after you have saved it, go to Posts>All Posts in the dashboard. Locate your draft from the list of posts and click on it to open it.

Remember to choose a “Category.” Also, don’t forget to set a “Featured Image.” No matter what type of post you are creating, always set a featured image.

Create A Text Post Without An Image

Follow all the steps in the tutorial “Create A Post With Text And Image” except the steps related to inserting the image. Instead, do this:

  1. After You have loaded the template “Post with text and image” locate the “X” in the corner of the image placeholder cell.
  2. Click on the “X” to delete the image placeholder cell.
  3. Follow all of the other steps in the tutorial.
Important

Remember to choose a “Category.” Also, don’t forget to set a “Featured Image.” No matter what type of post you are creating, always set a featured image.

Publicize - An Update to publishing options (PLEASE READ)

In the video tutorial on this page, I go over the publish settings . I purposely left out “Publicize” because it was not configured. Above is an image of the Publish menu. Under “Publicize” you will notice the social networks that the website is automatically configured to post to, when you hit the Publish button. To exclude a social media site Click “Edit Details” and uncheck the appropriate button. If you have access to the settings, please do not change anything. Do not try to configure sharing buttons. We already have them.
