From Emergency Relief to Recovery: Building Hope Through Knowledge

As Sudan’s conflict enters its fourth year, millions of families continue to face violence, displacement, hunger, and the collapse of livelihoods. Women and children remain among the hardest hit, while many schools, institutions, and agricultural systems have ceased functioning.

At Darfur Women Network (DWN), we believe that emergency relief saves lives, but knowledge restores livelihoods. By combining life-saving assistance with capacity building, we help war-affected families transition from crisis toward recovery, resilience, and self-reliance.

Investing in Recovery Through Capacity Building

Despite conflict, displacement, internet shutdowns, and communication blocked, DWN continues to provide free online agricultural training through WhatsApp in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and Rainbow Agricultural Training Center, reaching participants across Sudan—including conflict-affected communities and areas controlled by the RSF.

515 participants from across Sudan, including farmers, agricultural extension workers, women farmers, youth, entrepreneurs, managers, and participants from conflict-affected communities—including some living in RSF-controlled areas despite severe communication challenges.

The Next Step: Seeds of Recovery

Building on these achievements, DWN is developing the Seeds of Recovery initiative to support vulnerable smallholder farmers through certified improved seeds, agricultural extension services, and technical assistance. The program will help families restore food production, improve household food security, and strengthen community resilience.

Our vision is simple: to help war-affected families move from dependence on humanitarian assistance toward sustainable livelihoods through locally led agricultural recovery.
